About the Community

The FMM community in Putney is above all a welcoming community — a place where sisters from the Region and the Institute can come to rest, learn English, or simply be at home. At the same time, it is called to be a witness of faith to the people around it: a hidden, praying presence at the heart of south-west London.

The community is actively engaged in building up the local Church through prayer groups, spiritual direction, adoration, and involvement in parish and ecumenical activities — including participation in the Sycamore Group. It also carries out mission appeal and mission outreach on behalf of the wider Institute.

Sisters’ Missions

• Mission Appeal & Outreach Sisters carry out mission appeal and outreach on behalf of the Institute, raising awareness of the FMM missionary presence across the world.
• Local Parishes Active participation in the life of local parishes, offering presence, service, and support to the Catholic community in Putney and the surrounding area.
• Hospital Chaplaincy Sisters serve as hospital chaplains, accompanying patients and families through illness and difficulty with pastoral care and spiritual support.
• Bakhita House Engagement with Bakhita House, a centre supporting survivors of modern slavery and human trafficking, in the spirit of solidarity with the most vulnerable.
• Young Adults’ Group Sisters accompany a group of young adults in their faith journey, offering spaces of encounter, reflection, and community.
• Supporting Polish & Vietnamese Catholics A ministry of pastoral accompaniment to Polish and Vietnamese Catholic communities in London, serving their spiritual needs in their own languages and cultures.
• Prayer Group, Sycamore Group & Street Angels Sisters lead and participate in a prayer group, are part of the Sycamore ecumenical group, and are involved in Putney “Street Angels” — a night-time outreach to people in the streets.
