About the Community
First House of the Institute in France · 1881The Manoir des Châtelets is a place steeped in history: it was here that Marie de la Passion, foundress of the FMM, established the first novitiate of the Institute in 1881. Over more than a century, more than 2,000 young women prepared for mission here.
The site has evolved considerably. A large part of the buildings now houses the Mutualité’s post-acute care facility. However, Les Châtelets remains for the FMM a true “family home”: sisters from all over the world come here for a time of pilgrimage to their roots, retreat, renewal, or study.
It is also an open community — welcoming diocesan groups, engaged in parish life and healthcare ministry, and open for prayer and adoration in the chapel.
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations.” Mt 28:19 — Founding word of the FMM charism
